The Philosophy of Contemporary and Future Science

We are a research group based in the Department of Philosophy at Lingnan University.

Emergent institutional and technological changes are revolutionising contemporary science. How are these affecting scientific practice? In what ways should we change our philosophical ideas about science in response to these issues? And what do they imply for the future of science?

Our project will help to answer these questions. Currently, we are focused on the topics of evidence in AI, peer review, and opacity in complex computational systems. You can read more about our work on the research page.

In addition to traditional philosophical methods, we are using interviewing and other sociological tools to develop our research. We work in close collaboration with practicing scientists in the key scientific disciplines (physics, chemistry, and biology), with special emphasis on issues arising in the context of soft condensed matter physics, astrophysics, molecular biology, and computational chemistry. You can learn more about us on the team page.

Please get in touch if you would like to be involved in the project! We are actively recruiting new collaborators including Postdoctoral Fellows. Click here for details.

We regularly host talks and workshops on our research topics. Find out more on our events page.
